Contacts list: How to importing from iOS to Android

Despite the overwhelming hype over the recent release of iPhone 5, I'm sure there are many people who are thinking to switching over to the Android camp. Importing the bulk of your contacts may be one of the reasons to not to switch. Here's how to painlessly move your contacts from an Apple device over to Google contacts.

Requirements
- an Apple ID
- Gmail account (preferably with an empty contacts list)

STEP 1
Backup your Apple contacts to iCloud by using your Apple device and going to Settings->iCloud->switch on the contacts option.

STEP 2
Login to iCloud.com on your computer and click on the contacts icon.

STEP 3
Click the gear icon located at the bottom left and click select all. Click the gear icon again and select export vCard. It will download a file to the default folder selected by your browser in a .vcf format.

STEP 4
Go to Gmail.com, login and select contacts from the top left corner.

STEP 5
Click on Import contacts and link it to the .vcf file you have downloaded from iCloud.com previously. In a matter of seconds, voila! Your contacts will be loaded into your Gmail account.

Do note that this method does not do real time syncing but just plain copying from one account to another. It's good if you are ditching Apple for good, which I am. If you have a better and faster way of importing, do comment below!
